Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle is situated on a rocky island in the village of Dornie on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
- The castle is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. from 1 April till 31 October.
- The Visitor centre is open daily from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. from 1 April to 31 october.
- The Gift Shop is open all year.
This has been a fortified site for at least 800 years but the castle you visit today was basically re-built from a shell in the early part of the 20th Century. A stronghold of the Clan Macrae for 500 years, it is now open to visitors for exploration and contains some fascinating exhibitions and exhibits. Informative guides are always on hand to explain even the smallest details of interest.
In Spring 2006, world famous artist Gerry Hofstetter illuminated the castle using high powered lights and coloured slides. You can see the results of his labour here Eilean Donan Castle Illuminations
